Pet Health and Diet
To be a responsible pet owner, you need to have an understanding of pet health and diet. In order to have a happy pet you need to have a healthy pet. This section provides articles that will help you keep your pet healthy.
As a pet owner, you need to be aware that your pet’s health is largely affected by how you feed him. If the pet food and diet you feed your pet is lacking in certain vitamins that he requires, his health will suffer. This can mean that he is mal-nourished, or is receiving foods that may be unhealthy for him to have (like a dog receiving chocolate—which incidently can prove to be fatal). As a responsible pet owner, it is up to you to provide the right food and diet for your pet. You need to know what is specifically needed in his diet and be willing to provide it for him.
You need to be aware that feeding your pet too much can be equal to feeding him too little. This can lead to your pet being overweight. Your pet’s weight can be as much a problem to his health as it is with humans. Many people believe that feeding your pet, or over-feeding him, is a part of showing how much your love him. But in truth it can be “killing your pet with kindness”. Just as in humans, many diseases associated with obesity can occur with your pet. Your pet can get diabetes, just as a human can. He can have heart trouble, often associated with being overweight, just as a human can. And by being overweight, your pet may live a shortened life, just as with humans. So, to truly be kind to your pet, it is important that he receive the ‘right’ amount of food.
Your pet’s health can also be affected by the amount of exercise he receives. All pets need exercise, of course some types of pets more than others. A specific breed of dog, for instance, may require a lot of walking or other exercise that you would have to provide. Meanwhile, a cat that is let outside may be able to provide its own exercise. Or a bird may only require the correct size of cage, a perch and some toys to be able to get the amount of exercise he needs. As a pet owner, however, you need to see to it that your pet’s exercise regime is geared to his requirements in order to keep your pet at his optimum health level.
Of course, all of the above is mentioned because you as a pet owner want to do the best thing for your pet. You enjoy his companionship and wish him to be happy in the time you share together. This section will provide valuable information on many topics related to your pet’s health, such as vaccinations, how to find the right veterinarian, what to do about “fur-balls” with your cat, etc. Look here in the "Pet Health and Diet" section often for up-dated articles.
