Pet Cremation

When a treasured pet dies, pet cremation is a choice you may wish to consider.

Our pets become so much a part of our families that it is as hard to deal with the loss of them as with the loss of any other member of the family. They have shared in all of our family experiences and been our solid companions, day in and day out. We have shared our feelings with them, talked to them, slept with them, and cared for them. When one of our pets does pass away it can be very difficult to deal with. We then have to deal with the remains as you would with any other family member. So, as a final last gesture of love for your pet, you may want to consider cremation.

In recent times the trend for cremation for pets has been growing. When one of our animal friends does die, it is difficult to know what to do with the remains. You cannot just bury them in the backyard. Many cities do not allow pets to be buried within the city limits. There are also not very many pet cemeteries that you can turn to, and any that you can find tend to be located at distances outside of the cities.

Therefore another option is to have your pet cremated. This provides a respectful and dignified way for you to say farewell to your friend. Afterwards, if you choose not to intern your pet’s remains in the crematorium, you can preserve the ashes at home in an attractive urn or receptacle for remembrance of the time you shared together. You may also choose to inter your companion’s ashes in a registered pet cemetery. Or, you could scatter your friend’s ashes somewhere special that had meaning to you both. You may even choose to save your pet’s ashes to be buried with you when you die.

You should, however, do some serious research to pick the right crematorium. You should inquire if your pet will be cremated by himself. Some crematoriums will include more than one animal at once in the cremation process. In this case, the ashes you receive may not contain only your pet’s ashes but ashes from other people’s pets as well. (The crematoriums that offer this multiple style of cremation are usually for pet owner’s who do not wish to receive their pet’s ashes back. The ashes in this case are communally scattered on a pre-assigned property.)

Some pet crematoriums offer special features. For example, some will pick-up your pet’s remains from your home or veterinary clinic. After the cremation, they will then deliver your pet’s ashes back to you at home. At some crematoriums, they will allow you to witness your pet’s cremation in a special room where you can say a final farewell to your friend. After cremation, you will get a certificate from the crematorium with your pet’s name, your name and other valuable information.

Pet crematoriums at not only for cats and dogs, but can be for all types of pets. Many crematoriums offer services for birds, snakes, or animals as well. Prices of cremation differ according to the size and weight of the pet and also with the type of services you choose. As with human funeral planning, some crematoriums even offer pre-planning and pre-payment to help relieve you of the stress at that final crucial time.

Having your pet cremated may not be for everyone, but if you care enough for the time you spent with your special companion, it may be the right choice for you.
