Dogs Can Talk!
Have you ever noticed how much dogs can communicate to you with no words at all? Have you ever listened to a him talk? No, I have not gone crazy, but doesn’t it really seem sometimes that he is talking to you? You only have to look at his face to know what he is thinking.
Here is an example of what I mean: It is Christmas-time and you think it would be cute to put those funny reindeer antlers on your German Shepherd. Of course, he resists, but you win out and place those things on his head. When you stand back to admire the affect, can you not see in his facial expression what he really thinks? Of course, if your pet is like mine, his face will be telling you that he is humiliated by the whole experience.
Another example: Generally, and especially if you are as passionate about your pet as I am, you probably feed him his good-for-you dry food with maybe a little gravy on top to sweeten it up for him. Try putting out just the dry food with no added ‘tasties’. Look at his face again. His eyes will tell you how offended he is.
You can always tell a happy dog by the look on his face. Just watch a person walking their pet down the street. His tail is usually bobbing up and down with pleasure, and his mouth is always open in a wide canine grin. The animal simply oozes happiness because his companion and master is sharing his time with him.
Next watch your family pet with a small child. You can see how protective he is, how he stands watching over every move the child makes. He knows it is his responsibility to safeguard the child. His forehead is wrinkled and his face is serious. There is no-nonsense at that time. He is on the job!
Your pet’s eyes will plead with you to throw his ball. He will express his anticipation as he waits for his master to return home from work. And, he shows his emotions when he knows you are disappointed in him.
Is that not all a form of communication? It may not be in words, but it is in expressions that we humans can understand. Your friend is ‘talking’ to you in his own way. So, don’t let anyone tell you that dogs cannot talk.
