The Boxer

Boxers come from a line of dogs bred throughout Europe since the 16th century, but this breed of dogs has reached its greatest acclaim in Germany over the past 100 years. This dog breed can claim to be a cousin to almost all of the recognized Bulldog breeds, from which it gets its beautiful fawn color. The bloodline for this breed goes back to the basic Molossus blood, and can also claim to be a descendant of the old Tibetan fighting dogs, the Tibetan Mastiff. This dog may also claim to be genetically bred from the English Bulldog and also carries a certain heritage from Terriers.

This dog got its name from the way it was known to fight in his early dog fighting days. This dog tended to use his front paws when fighting, almost as a man would in the boxing arena.

This breed of dogs are well-known today for their stamina and courage. They were typically used as fighting dogs and bull baiting up until the middle of the 19th century. After that time, those activities were outlawed by most of the civilized world. Today the breed has become one of the favorites in the dog world. It has maintained its trait of courageousness, some of the aggression, and the ability of defense when needed.

These are loyal dogs that are very devoted to their masters. They are extremely intelligent and fearless. Their agility and strength are well-known.

This breed of dog is medium-sized with a sturdy somewhat compact square-ish build. It is usually fawn in color, and comes in varying shades from light tan to dark mahogany. You can also find it in a brindle color with clearly defined black striping on a fawn base coat. His coat is short, smooth and appears tight-fitting. The tail of this dog is usually docked.

This dog is well-developed and has a very muscular appearance. He is full of energy with a combination of speed, strength, and dexterity. He has superior jumping ability. This is a very intelligent animal that is able to take commands well. This breed of dog is well-suited for military or police work.

This dog breed's temperament presents as one of alert, dignified self-assuredness. He is typically high-spirited and playful. With strangers the type of dog generally exhibits curiosity, or he can show fearless courage and stubbornness if threatened. With family members and trusted friends however, the Boxer’s temperament is known to be playful and patient. He can be especially good with children. He is an elegant dog that gives loyal affection to his masters. He is intelligent and handles discipline well. With all of these admirable traits, this type of dog makes a highly desirable family pet and companion.
